Privacy Policy
Notarus records are private by default. This policy explains the account, record, payment, analytics, and device information involved in operating the service; the limited service providers used; and the choices available for access, export, correction, and deletion.
Effective date: June 2026
Last updated: July 2026
Notarus is operated by Notarus LLC ("Notarus," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Notarus is a tool for adults (18+) to keep their own private, tamper-evident records. It is not directed to children.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: email address, and if you choose, phone number and your name.
- Profile details: information you enter about yourself and the people you're documenting — which may include names and ages of your children or other people you care for.
- Your records: the entries, notes, dates, categories, and any photos or documents you upload, including sobriety/BAC readings if you use that feature.
- Payment information: handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Basic device and log data (e.g., browser type, app version, approximate time of access) used for security and reliability.
- Anonymous, aggregate page-view data on public marketing pages (such as the page path, referring site, device type, and campaign labels like UTM source). We exclude private app screens, record identifiers, and secure-share links from marketing analytics.
- If you create an account from a tracked campaign link, we may store those non-sensitive campaign labels with your account so we can understand which outreach produced a signup. We do not put record content in campaign labels.
- A small amount of local storage in your browser to keep you signed in (an authentication token). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2. How we use your information
We use your information only to: provide and secure the service; authenticate you; process payments; respond to support requests; maintain the integrity of your records; comply with law; and communicate with you about your account.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. There are no ads in Notarus.
3. How your data is stored and protected
Your data is hosted on Supabase (database and file storage) in the United States. It is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Access is isolated per user through database Row-Level Security, so other users cannot see your records. Uploaded files are stored in a private, per-user bucket accessible only to you.
4. Service providers
We share limited data with vendors who help us operate, under contract and only as needed: Supabase (hosting/storage), Vercel (web hosting and privacy-focused aggregate analytics), Stripe (payments), and our email provider (account emails). These providers are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
5. Information about other people, including children
You may enter information about other people — including minors (such as your children). You are responsible for the information you record about others and for having any rights or permissions needed. Notarus is an adult tool and is not directed to children; we do not knowingly let children create accounts.
6. When information is shared
Your records are private by default. Information leaves Notarus only when you choose to: export a report, send it to someone, or use the public verification link. The public verification page reveals only that a report is authentic and its date/range — never the contents, names, or categories of your records.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access & export: You can export your records and data at any time from the app.
- Account closure / deletion: You can close your account from within the app; when you do, we permanently delete your personal data, except where we must retain limited records to comply with law (e.g., tax/payment records).
- Correction: You can update your profile information. Individual records are tamper-evident: each is preserved with a cryptographic fingerprint when saved. If you correct a record afterward, it is visibly marked as updated after its original preservation and the original fingerprint is retained — nothing changes quietly. You may also delete records you control, and you control your account as a whole.
- Privacy-law rights: Depending on where you live (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, port, correct, or delete your data, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. To exercise any right, contact us at support@notarus.app.
8. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. After account closure we delete personal data within 30 days of account closure, except limited information we must retain for legal, security, or payment-compliance reasons.
9. Children's privacy
Notarus is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. (Information a parent records about a child is covered in Section 5.)
10. International users
If you access Notarus from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll post the new date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
